Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) stands as one of the most prestigious higher learning institutions, entrusted by the nation with an important mission to empower the country while preserving and upholding the national cultures, language and values.

UKM commenced its operations on May 18, 1970, in response to the nation’s need for a national university that would provide opportunities for tertiary education, equip students with valuable skills and core values, and enable them to contribute to the progress and prosperity of the country. Starting with just three faculties, UKM has since expanded to encompass 14 faculties, 13 research institutes of excellence, and two teaching hospitals over the course of its 53-year journey.

In 2021, UKM introduced a new narrative and holistic framework known as T.E.R.A.S. (UKM Strategic Action Plan Framework 2021) for its members including students to embrace and integrate their daily duties and practices toward excellence. The framework consists of the core values; which are Talent, Ethics, Revitalise, Agile, and Soul. T.E.R.A.S. frames our yearly strategic plan that encourages people to demonstrate knowledge through performance. The whole concept, values, and execution of works should make relevant to all entities and aspects of higher education such as academics, research, innovation, student affairs, finance, alumni as well as administration.

As a national university in addressing country growth, UKM is mandated to focus on research translation, transferring the knowledge to benefit the community to achieve well-being. Besides, starting 2023, UKM re-strengthen its strategy for achieving sustainability campus. Through our partnership and sharing of our talents with the industries, we will strike the goal of building a sustainable world.
