Brendan O’Malley has been a journalist for more than four decades, focusing on education, development and international politics. He has been editor of University World News for eight years and has dedicated a section of that publication to coverage of higher education’s contribution to the SDGs. As a consultant for UNESCO and the Coalition to Protect Education from Attack and other INGOs, he has led global research on violent political and military attacks on education, and measures to protect education from attack, and written extensively about the impact of conflict on education and the role of education in development. He was shortlisted for the 1999 Orwell Prize for co-writing an investigative book on the impact of foreign military and intelligence interests on the Cyprus problem.
